a straight answer, then a way to find out
The questions people actually ask
Each one answered plainly — what is usually going on, what to do tonight — and then the honest part: it depends on which kind of person you are. That part is measurable.
Relationships
- Should I text him?If you are asking because you want to, yes. If you are asking because he went quiet and you need to know why, wait one night first — the message you send from that place is the one you will want back.
- Should I text my ex?Not tonight. Whatever you want to say will still be true in the morning, and almost nothing sent to an ex after ten p.m. was meant the way it reads at nine a.m.
- Am I too needy?Probably not too needy — more likely needy in a way that does not get met, which then looks like too much. The amount is rarely the problem. The mismatch is.
- Why do I get so jealous?Because some part of you expects to be left, and jealousy is what expecting to be left looks like when there is a specific person to be left for. It is a fear wearing an accusation.
- Is my relationship healthy?Healthy relationships have conflict, boredom, and bad weeks. What they do not have is contempt, fear, or a version of you that keeps getting smaller. Check for those three, not for happiness.
- Should I break up with them?If you are asking a search engine, part of you has already answered. The useful question is which part — the one that is tired this week, or the one that has been tired for a year.
- Why do we keep having the same fight?Because it is not about the dishes. Most repeating fights are one fight with different props — usually about whether one of you is heard, or whether one of you is free — and it will keep coming back until that one is named.
- Is my partner pulling away?Maybe. But there are three things that feel identical from your side — a partner withdrawing, a partner having an ordinary busy week, and your own alarm going off — and only one of them is about them.
- Do I have trust issues? If you are checking, testing, or bracing for a betrayal that has not happened, yes — but "trust issues" is not a diagnosis, it is a setting, and it can be read and adjusted like one.
- Am I emotionally unavailable? If you keep choosing people who cannot commit, leaving the ones who can, or being told you are hard to reach by people who tried — probably, yes. It is not a character flaw. It is a strategy, and it has a reason.
Work & career
- Should I quit my job?Not this week, and not on a feeling. But if you have been asking for more than three months and can name the thing that will not change, the answer is probably already yes — and the useful question is what you are quitting toward.
- What career is right for me?One that uses the kind of work you are pulled toward — understanding, making, helping, building, persuading, or organising — for a reason you actually hold. The job title is the last thing to decide, not the first.
- Why do I keep getting passed over for promotion?Usually not because your work is worse. Usually because your work is invisible, or because the thing the next level needs is not the thing you are good at — and nobody has told you which.
- Am I in the wrong career? If you are good at it and still dread it, possibly. If you are bad at it and love it, probably not. Competence is a poor guide here — plenty of people are excellent at work that is the wrong shape for them.
- Should I take the management job?Only if you want to do the job of managing — which is a different job from the one you are good at now. Most people take it for the money and the title and discover that they have been promoted out of the thing they liked.
- Why do I hate my job?Usually one of four things: the work is the wrong kind, the job starves a value you hold, one person is making it unbearable, or you are burned out and the job is the nearest thing to blame. They feel identical and need different exits.
Stress, sleep & the mind
- Am I overthinking this?If you are asking, yes — but overthinking is not a character flaw, it is a loop that has not closed, and loops close when they get a decision or a deadline. They do not close by being thought about harder.
- Am I burned out or just tired?Tired lifts after rest. Burnout does not — and it comes with two things tiredness does not: a cynicism about the work you used to care about, and a sense that you are no longer any good at it. If you have all three, that is burnout, and a weekend will not fix it.
- Why can't I stop worrying?Because the worrying is doing a job — it feels like preparation, or like control, or like the thing that keeps the bad outcome away — and your nervous system will not let go of a job it believes is working. It is not working. But it has never been given the evidence.
- Why am I always tired?Usually because you are not sleeping as well as you think, or because you are carrying a load — stress, worry, a job that empties you — that sleep alone does not repay. And sometimes because something medical is going on, which a page cannot rule out and a blood test can.
