The science behind it

Attachment theory is one of the most-studied frameworks in relationship psychology, going back to Bowlby and Ainsworth and measured today with the Experiences in Close Relationships (ECR) scales. The two dimensions are the ECR's — attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance — but the items are situational rather than self-descriptive: twelve ordinary moments, four things a person might do, each option loading the two dimensions independently. You are scored on what you would do rather than on how you rate yourself, as percentiles against the distribution this format produces. Read the full methodology →

Common questions

How accurate is this test?

Items are adapted from the Experiences in Close Relationships (ECR) research tradition, the standard for measuring adult attachment. Scores are percentiles against real norms — see our methodology page for how scoring works.

Is it really free?

Yes. Your full scored result — percentiles, archetype, share card — is free, always, and every insight opens with a free profile. Nothing in a result is for sale.

Do I need an account?

No. Take the test and see your result instantly. An account only exists to save results across devices.

Quiz or talking with Luna — which should I pick?

Same questions, same scoring. The quiz is fastest; talking with Luna feels more natural and lets you add nuance. You can switch any time and your answers carry over. Talking is limited to once a day because it costs far more to run; the quiz never is.

What if the result does not sound like me?

Then say so — that is useful information, not a failure. Every self-report instrument measures how you answered today, and mood, context and how honestly you read the items all move it. Take it again in a few weeks, or open the result with Luna and tell her which part is wrong; she works from the same numbers and will not insist you are the archetype.

Who can see my results?

Nobody but you, unless you share them. Nothing is posted anywhere, results are not public, and a share card is only created when you ask for one. Luna sees your results only while the switch for that is on in Settings, and you can turn it off mid-conversation.

How often should I retake it?

Not weekly. These constructs are meant to be fairly stable, so a re-test after a few months — or after something genuinely changed, a new job, the end of a relationship, a course of therapy — tells you something. Re-taking after a bad afternoon mostly measures the afternoon.

Can my attachment style change?

Yes — attachment is a pattern, not a life sentence. Many people shift toward security with awareness and practice. Retesting every few months shows your movement.
