Are "Mirror Types" actually the most slept-on dynamic in MBTI? (INFJ/ENFP, INTJ/ENTP etc.)

Honestly, I’ve been deep-diving into cognitive functions for a while now, and everyone always talks about the "Golden Pair" (like INFJ/ENTP) or the "Same-Type Soulmates." But can we discuss mirror c**omplementary relatio

Honestly, I’ve been deep-diving into cognitive functions for a while now, and everyone always talks about the "Golden Pair" (like INFJ/ENTP) or the "Same-Type Soulmates." But can we discuss mirror complementary relationships for a second?

I’m talking about those types where you share the same middle letters but flip the E/I and J/P. Think INFJ x ENFP, INTJ x ENTP, or INFP x ENFJ.

On paper, it appears to be a mess because the functions are literally reversed (e.g., INFJ's Ni-Fe vs. ENFP's Ne-Fi). But IRL? The vibe is insane. It’s like meeting a version of yourself from a parallel universe where you made completely different life choices.

Here’s why I think this dynamic hits different:

  • The "Shadow" Magnetism: It’s not just "opposites attract." It’s more like they are naturally good at the stuff that’s in your "Shadow" or subconscious. An INFJ might spend 5 hours overthinking a single Ni-insight, while an ENFP just walks in, throws 10 Ne-ideas at the wall, and suddenly the INFJ is unstuck. It’s like they have the key to your locked doors.
  • The Same "Frequency," Different Radio Station: If you’re both NFs or both NTs, you’re looking at the same world. You care about the same deep/abstract stuff. But because one is an "Introverted Judger" and the other is an "Extroverted Perceiver," you never get bored. They challenge your perspective without making you feel like they "don't get you."
  • The Mutual Growth (The hard part): I’ve noticed that Mirror types can either be the best duo ever or a total train wreck. Since they reflect your "Inferior" or "Shadow" functions, they can sometimes annoy the hell out of you by being "too much" of what you’re secretly insecure about.

TL;DR: Mirror relationships feel like looking into a "funhouse mirror"—everything is distorted, but it’s still you.

I’m curious to hear from you guys:

  1. Have you ever been in a close friendship/relationship with your "Mirror"? (e.g. ISTP x ESTJ, etc.)
  2. Does it feel like a "Soulmate" vibe or just a "I want to strangle you, but I love you" vibe?
  3. Which mirror pair do you think is the most chaotic? (My vote is on ENTJ x INTP... that’s a lot of brainpower for one room lol).

Let’s discuss! ☕️
