Am I Having Panic Attacks · type
The Flat Sea
Nothing here has the shape of a pattern. Maybe one hard ten minutes at some point, but no loop has formed around it.
What this type is
Your answers over the last month do not describe a panic pattern. There may have been a strong physical episode once, or a stretch where your heart did something you did not like, but it has not turned into the thing that makes panic a condition: the standing fear of the next one, and a month arranged around preventing it. That distinction is the whole point of this check, and it is worth stating plainly, because a single panic attack is one of the most common experiences there is. A large minority of adults have one at some point in their lives. Panic disorder is far rarer. One attack is an event, not a diagnosis, and treating it as a diagnosis is the main way a single event becomes a pattern.
If you came here after one bad episode, the useful reading is this: what happened to you was a false alarm in a system that is supposed to fire — a full-body emergency response, correct in every detail except that there was no emergency. It peaked and then it fell, because that is what the response does; it cannot hold its own peak. Knowing that is not reassurance, it is mechanism, and mechanism is what stops the second attack from being worse than the first.
Where the reading can mislead: a low score cannot rule out a heart or thyroid problem, and it was never trying to. If the episode you are thinking about was your first, or involved chest pain, or felt different from anything before it, that belongs with a doctor regardless of what this page says. And if your episodes only ever arrive in front of other people, this is probably the wrong test — that pattern usually belongs to social anxiety, which has its own check and its own answers.
What people with this result notice
Four of the eight notes the test writes for this type; the rest come with your own result.
🌊 One attack is not a condition
A single panic attack is extremely common — a large minority of adults have one at some point — and far more common than panic disorder. The episode is an event. What makes it a condition is the loop that can form afterwards, and your answers say that loop has not formed.
⚕️ If it was your first, or there was chest pain
Let a doctor rule out the heart and the other medical causes. This is not us saying you are fine. It is the correct order: clinicians rule out the physical before they name the panic, and skipping that step is how a real problem gets called anxiety for two years.
What produces this result
Every answer feeds one overall score, and that score falls into one of 3 bands. The bands are levels of the same thing, not different kinds of person.
The surgeThe fear of the next oneWhat you have given up
This is a screening-style questionnaire, not a diagnosis. A high score is a reason to talk to someone who can assess properly.
