Am I Overstimulated Β· type
The Level Basin
Things come in and things go out, and the level is holding. Not a claim that you are unbothered by much β a reading that the account is currently balanced.
What this type is
Your answers over the last two weeks sit in the range most adults report. Input is arriving, you notice it, and something is still putting it back β there is a stretch of the day that is genuinely quiet, rest still returns you to yourself, and you are not spending most of the week just under your ceiling. That is worth stating carefully, because it is easy to misread in a flattering direction. This is not a finding that you are insensitive, thick-skinned, or better at this than the people around you. It is a finding that the ledger is level right now. Ledgers change, and this one changes faster than most people expect β a new job, a new baby, a move to a noisier flat, and the same nervous system reads completely differently within a month.
The bars are worth a look even here, because a level total can sit on top of two large numbers rather than two small ones. If your input bar is high and your recovery bar is also high, you are not coasting β you are paying for a great deal of input with a great deal of recovery, and the account balances because the payments are being made. That is a genuinely sustainable arrangement and it is also a fragile one, because it depends entirely on the recovery window continuing to exist. The commute that is your only silent hour, the evening nobody schedules anything into, the early morning before the house wakes up: these are load-bearing, and they are almost always the first thing given away when something new arrives. If that is your shape, the useful thing to know in advance is which hour is doing the work, so that you notice when it is being taken rather than discovering it three weeks later.
Two limits on this reading. The first is the window: two weeks is long enough to catch a pattern and short enough to be thrown by an unusually quiet fortnight inside a loud year. If this reads calmer than your life generally feels, trust your life. The second is what this test is not measuring. It is a state, not a trait β it says where you are at the moment, not how reactive you are by disposition. If you have always been the person who hears the fridge, who cannot think in a busy cafΓ©, who needs a long time alone after a party, that is a different question, and the highly sensitive person test is the one that asks it. People are often high on the trait and level on this, which is exactly what a well-arranged life looks like from the inside.
What people with this result notice
Four of the eight notes the test writes for this type; the rest come with your own result.
π’ Where overload actually comes from
The three most common structural sources are parenting small children, open-plan offices, and city commuting or shared housing. None of them is solved by a personal technique, and most advice on this subject quietly assumes you can control your environment. If your input ever rises and the environment is fixed, the two things that move are predictable recovery β knowing when the quiet comes, which lowers the load by itself β and putting work that needs concentration somewhere other than the loudest hours.
π‘οΈ Trait and state are different questions
This measures where you are right now: what is coming in against what is going back. It is not a measure of how reactive you are by disposition. If you have always been the person who hears the fridge and needs a long time alone after a party, that is the trait, and the highly sensitive person test asks it directly. Many people are high on the trait and level here β that is what a well-arranged life looks like from the inside.
What produces this result
Every answer feeds one overall score, and that score falls into one of 3 bands. The bands are levels of the same thing, not different kinds of person.
What's coming inHow fast you hit the ceilingWhat you get back
This is a screening-style questionnaire, not a diagnosis. A high score is a reason to talk to someone who can assess properly.
Is this you?
The Am I Overstimulated test is 15 questions and takes about 3 minutes. Your result carries your own numbers, not just the name.
