ENTJ characteristics
An ENTJ tends to see the end state and the route there in the same glance, which is why they often start giving instructions before anyone else has finished describing the problem. Speech is close to real-time strategy: the plan is being assembled aloud, revised aloud, and assigned aloud, often in the same breath. This is efficient and it is also why rooms full of ENTJs move fast and rooms with one ENTJ in them move at the ENTJ's pace.
Three things recur across almost every account of the type. The first is comfort with authority — not a hunger for status, but an ease with being the one who decides, which other people often read as ambition even when it is closer to impatience with drift. The second is scale: an ENTJ would rather run something large badly-organised than something small perfectly tidy, because scale is where the interesting problems live. ENTJ stands for Extraverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Judging — four preferences, not four settings carved in stone. ENTJs do their best work wherever the scope is large enough to matter and the authority to act comes with it. A plan that cannot be changed once it's approved will frustrate them faster than a hard problem ever could — it isn't the difficulty they resist, it's being asked to execute someone else's unchallenged reasoning. They tend to rise quickly in structures that reward results over tenure, and they tend to stall in ones that reward patience, seniority, or the appearance of consensus.
