Enneagram 8w7: The Maverick
Force plus appetite — moves first and enjoys it.
Type 8 (The Challenger) with a 7 (The Enthusiast) wing
What 8w7 is
8w7 combines the Eight's control with the Seven's forward motion, producing the most energetic and most externally driven version of the type. It is the wing that starts things, takes territory, and is genuinely having a good time doing it.
The Seven wing gives an Eight appetite and speed. Where 8w9 conserves force, 8w7 spends it constantly — starting things, taking ground, enjoying the fight — and the resulting charisma is considerable. It is the most externally driven version of Type Eight and the most likely to be described as larger than life.
8w7 compared with 8w9
Against 8w9, the difference is tempo. 8w9 is still and immovable; 8w7 is fast and expansive. 8w9 conserves force until it is needed; 8w7 spends it constantly and has more.
8w9 · The Bear →What 8w7 is most often mistaken for
Most often mistaken for a Seven, and occasionally for a Three. The tell is confrontation: a Seven avoids the unpleasant conversation, an 8w7 walks into it. The energy looks similar and the relationship to conflict is opposite.
8w7 in relationships
Intense, generous and hard to keep up with. The pattern that damages relationships is speed — an 8w7 will have escalated, resolved and moved on before a partner has finished processing what happened, and reads the partner's lingering as a grudge.
Signs you lead with this wing
- ·You act before you have finished considering it
- ·You are visibly charismatic and slightly overwhelming
- ·Boredom makes you push harder rather than withdraw
- ·You take risks that other people describe as reckless and you do not
- ·You are more social than the Eight stereotype
The growth edge
Stopping. The Seven wing removes the pause the Eight already did not have, which is where the collateral damage comes from.
