Why Do I Wake Up at 3am · type
The Thin Wall
The cheapest cause to fix and the one most people skip past: something in the room is ending your night, and it is not always making a noise.
What this type is
Your answers point at the room. This is the cause people dismiss first, partly because it feels too simple to be the answer and partly because the room is invisible once you have lived in it a while — you stopped hearing the boiler, the street, the partner who turns over at three, the pet who arrives at four. The physics are straightforward. Sleep holds better a degree or two cooler than feels comfortable when you get in, and it holds better in darkness that is more complete than most bedrooms manage; a strip of streetlight under a curtain is enough to lighten the second half of the night. Noise does not have to wake you consciously to lift you out of deep sleep. And a bed shared with someone on a different schedule is a bed with two sets of wake-ups in it.
Then there is the phone, and it is worth being precise about it, because the usual blue-light story is the least interesting part. The real problem is availability: when there is something in your hand with more in it, you do not go back to sleep. The ten minutes of lying there, which would have ended in sleep, becomes fifty minutes of scrolling and a properly broken night. Leaving the phone across the room is not about the screen's colour temperature, it is about friction. Alongside that: make the room cooler and darker than you think it needs to be, try earplugs or a steady background sound for a week before deciding they do not work, and treat separate duvets or separate beds as an ordinary logistical fix rather than a verdict on a relationship. Couples who sleep apart on purpose usually report liking each other more.
Where this path is a disguise for something else: if you fix all of it and still wake at the same hour, the room was the trigger, not the reason — something else is keeping you from going back down, and the other three results describe it. Watch for the phone becoming the mind path in another form, where the scrolling is what the worrying looks like. And if what wakes you is a partner snoring loudly with pauses in their breathing, the medical referral belongs to them; the earplugs are a workaround, not the answer.
What people with this result notice
Four of the eight notes the test writes for this type; the rest come with your own result.
🌙 Waking once or twice is normal
Adult sleep has surfacings built into it; most people have several a night and remember none. What makes it a problem is whether you get back down and whether the next day pays for it. On this path the waking usually has an author, and the author is in the room.
🚪 Cheapest to fix, most often skipped
Darker, cooler and quieter than you think it needs to be, for one week, changing nothing else. It seems too simple to be the answer, which is exactly why it goes untried — and it is the only cause on this list you can settle in seven days for almost no money.
What produces this result
Each answer adds to one of 4 facets. Whichever facet ends up highest names your type, so the result is about what leads rather than what is absent.

This is a screening-style questionnaire, not a diagnosis. A high score is a reason to talk to someone who can assess properly.
