地平線

Vision came out as your strongest leadership quality. It is the ability to see where things are going before it is obvious — to hold a picture of the future that is clear enough to organise around, and to communicate it in a way that makes people want to go there. Vision is the quality that turns a group into a direction.

The gift is that people follow you somewhere. You give work a reason, you see the opportunity or the threat early, and you keep a team oriented when the day-to-day would otherwise swallow it. Strategy, founding, product, transformation, and any role where the question is "what should we be doing" are your ground.

The friction is the distance between the horizon and the ground. You can be so far ahead that the people who are supposed to be following have lost sight of you, and the plan that was clear in your head arrives to them as a sequence of unexplained changes. Execution — the unglamorous, repetitive part of getting there — is not where your attention naturally goes, and you may underrate the people who do it. Under pressure you look further ahead rather than closer. The work is to turn around, regularly, and check who is still walking with you — and to pair yourself with someone who loves the ground.
